Each year, more than one million children are born with congenital heart defects, and only 10% of them have access to the specialized medical care they need. If left untreated, these heart conditions cause chronic illness, failure to thrive, limited quality of life, and for many, a shortened lifespan. HeartGift addresses this disparity of care and provides access to free, life-saving surgeries.

Step 1: Set a Budget!
Take into consideration any expenses – venue or location, supplies, food and beverage, licenses or permits, decorations, and printing. Set a goal of how much you’d like to raise, and consider that expenses should not total more than 30% of funds raised. HeartGift cannot cover or reimburse expenses related to your fundraiser.
Step 2: Create a Fundraiser Page
- Set up your personalized fundraising page at justgiving.com/heartgiftfoundation
- Click “Fundraise for Us” then “Sign Up” to create your account and customize your campaign.
- Next, set your fundraising goal (we suggest a minimum of $250), then personalize your page to suit your particular fundraiser.
- Choose a catchy title
- Share your personal story (What does HeartGift mean to you? What is the impact you believe you can have on the children HeartGift serves?)
- Customize your URL (try something simple, like your name)
- Add a cover photo
- Click “Launch my page!” and you’re live!
Step 3: Kick-Start Your Fundraising!
You will be surprised how much your friends and family want to support you and the things that are important to you like HeartGift.
Identify your networks. No connection is too small! Friends, family, colleagues, classmates, neighbors, professional, volunteer, or religious groups, social media connections, etc.
- Set a goal (minimum of $250)
- Make the first gift yourself to show your commitment
- Tell your story with passion
- Meet with contacts individually
- Spread the word on social media (include your URL)
- Call, text, or email your networks (include your URL)
- Send a personalized letter using your holiday card mailing list
- Does your workplace have a matching program? If so, partner with them to match the funds you raise
Step 4: Thanking Your Donors
Thank your donors as they donate or wait until your event is completed. Personalizing your note is a great way to add a special touch. Please note:
- All donations made through your online fundraising page will automatically receive a tax receipt and thank you email from us through the email address they provide.
- HeartGift will issue gift receipts for checks/money orders made out to HeartGift.
- HeartGift will send thank you notes to all donors with contact information included (name, address, email address).
