Melodi – Age 18mo – Honduras

From the very beginning, baby Melodi’s journey was difficult. Her birth father walked away upon learning that she had a congenital heart defect, leaving her young mom, Alma, to take care of the baby alone. When she was just 18 months old, Melodi was diagnosed with Tetralogy of Fallot, a combination of four defects in her tiny heart.

Unfortunately, the necessary surgery was not available in her home country, so HeartGift stepped in. Mom and baby traveled more than 1,000 miles from Tegulcigalpa, Honduras to New Orleans to start her miraculous HeartGift medical journey. Melodi’s heart was repaired by a medical team at Children’s Hospital New Orleans. Today, the three-year-old is bursting with energy, running, playing, and laughing like little girls do!
