Henry – Age 1 – Uganda

A few weeks after birth, Henry’s mom noticed her baby had difficulty breathing, poor appetite, and little weight gain. Ultimately, Henry was diagnosed with ventricular septal defect, a small hole between the lower chambers of his heart, and the necessary treatment is not available in Uganda. So HeartGift stepped in and brought mom and baby to the United States.

They traveled more than 8,500 miles from the City of Entebbee in Uganda, to Amsterdam, Atlanta, then San Antonio. The team at University Health successfully closed the hole in Henry’s heart. Today, Henry is back home in Uganda eating more and learning to walk – and run – like a champ!
