At just eight years old, Joseph traveled over 1,200 miles from rural Honduras to the United States for a second chance at life. Born with an atrial septal defect—a hole between the top chambers of his heart—Joseph spent the first days of his life in the hospital and years dealing with extreme fatigue and limited activity. He desperately needed specialized treatment, but it isn’t available in his country. Thanks to HeartGift, this young man bravely went into open-heart surgery with his family by his side and hope in his heart.
