Kamila – Age 2 – Belize

Kamila was born a few weeks premature, and doctors detected a significant heart murmur. They diagnosed her with Tetralogy of Fallot, a combination of four defects in her small, fragile heart. If left untreated, the condition was not compatible with life. Open-heart surgery was needed, but access to such specialized medicine was unavailable in Belize. Kamila was very sick, and upon arriving in the US, she went directly to the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (CICU) at Children’s Hospital New Orleans. Surgery was successful and Kamila is now gaining weight and thriving!
